Been playing Fire Emblem Engage the last few weeks! It is indeed just as fun as I hoped it'd be. I've seen it described as being kind of 'Saturday morning cartoon' in tone and writing quality, and honestly that's pretty spot on. The characters are a little flat and exaggerated, and there's definitely some units whose supports lean more towards comedy, but I still feel like everyone's decently rounded out. And, just as importantly, I've really liked the gameplay! The Emblem feature isn't as overpowered as I worried it might be, and there's still challenges in figuring out how to utilize the different abilities strategically. I'm already planning out the things I'll do differently in my next playthrough now that I've gotten more used to all the features lol.
For this first playthough, though, I'm focusing on bringing all the royals into the endgame and maxing out their supports with each other. I really like all of them - I'd probably say Ivy or Timerra's my favorite, but they're all good kids. Royal polycule may be my favorite ship for the game so far lmao. I'd say Alear's my favorite character though, they're genuinely very cute and doing their best no matter how overwhelmed they get. I feel like the game does a good job of showing their vulnerabilities and making them distinct from other MCs, and their design has really grown on me in all it's tacky glory. I just finished Chapter 20, too, so we're getting more into the story of what happened 1000 years ago that put them into their magic coma, and that's been fun~
Other thoughts: a lot of good sibling content, Veyle's got some fun stuff going on, and the villainfuckers can and should have a great time with the big bads
